I’m Jena Garrett and I handle almost everything when it comes to taking care of Watershed’s office and our people. You might be wondering, “Jena, why are you writing this letter and the CEO isn’t?”. It’s because I handle the majority of our hiring process, and finding the right people is something I take seriously—it’s also key to what makes Watershed such a great place to work.
I’ve worked for our CEO, Mike Rustici, since 2011—five years at Rustici Software and, now, here at Watershed. So, what’s kept me around all these years? In addition to both companies continually being recognized as great places to work and for offering some pretty great (and unique) benefits, here are a few reasons why I stick around, and why you might want to find yourself working here, too.
I work with REALLY smart people who are constantly pushing themselves, each other, and our product to be better every day. Seeking constant improvement is so important to who we are that it’s a company-wide Core Value. Developing the world’s most comprehensive learning analytics technology is a big deal, and we take that extremely seriously.
I have autonomy in my work, and so does everyone else here. We aren’t the type of company that’s going to babysit you and hand you your next assignment—so if that’s how you work best, this isn’t the place for you. We hire the smartest people and quickly get out of their way so they can run fast and push hard.
The freedom I’m allowed in my workday also spills into my life outside the office. And, as the mother to a toddler, this is crucial. Life happens, and we want you to be able to take care of things when they come up. We won’t ever ask you to clock in or out, but we do expect your best work while you’re here. We expect 40 hours of hard-charging, heads-down, intense work a week. But, when you’re not here, we want you to live your best life and we’ll do everything we can to clear hurdles for you during your workday via BetterFits.
We work and live by our Core Values. They truly define Watershed, how we work, and how we interact with each other. So, take the time to learn them and consider how they resonate with you. We expect you to come into every interaction with your work, your coworkers, and our clients with these six values top of mind.
If Watershed sounds like a place you can see yourself thriving, reach out. But take some time to get to know us. Be prepared to ask us questions about what we do, what we think matters, and ways you think we can do better. We’re not hung up on formal resumes or particular qualifications. Just send us some details about yourself, your experiences, and why you think you’re a good fit for this company.
