Connect Open LMS with Watershed for a Deeper Understanding of Learner Activity

Track learners across a range of Open LMS activities and report on completions and detailed interactions using configurable report dashboards segmented and filtered based on your HRIS hierarchy data.

Take your learning insights to the next level by connecting Watershed with Open LMS. With Watershed’s Open LMS integration, you can now visualize all your data in consistent, easy-to-configure dashboards—regardless of which course or activity the data comes from. You can even compare data from different activities or courses in the same report or segment, filter, and compare learners based on HRIS hierarchy data.

Watershed empowers you to make data-driven decisions with easy-to-use dashboards and customizable reports. Your employees, managers and L&D teams can make informed decisions and spot trends like never before.

Once you’ve connected your Open LMS data, you’re all set to take it one step further. You can build a complete picture of your learner behavior and program performance across your entire ecosystem by adding other data sources.

Enhance Your L&D Insights with Detailed Activity Module Reporting

The Watershed-Open LMS integration provides detailed reporting on platform logins and course completions. It also offers reporting on a range of activity modules, including SCORM, LTI, lesson, URL, assignment, quiz, feedback, forum, and face-to-face.

Monitor Platform Usage.

Keep track of overall logins, course completions, and activity module interactions. Use these reports to ensure Open LMS usage and identify seasonal usage trends to help plan the launch of new courses.

Keep Track of Course Progress.

Ensure learners are making progress through courses with configurable program reports. See the percentage of learners who have completed each course activity module.

Deep Dive into Learner Interactions.

Look beyond the surface and explore detailed learner interactions within activity modules. For example, identify common misconceptions by reporting on which incorrect options learners most commonly select in a quiz.

Use one integrated reporting platform for all your reports.

Watershed offers a single reporting dashboard for all your learning data, including each of your various activity modules and learning activity on other platforms outside of Open LMS. This dashboard provides a consistent view and interface for your reporting and means you can compare learning data regardless of where it comes from. So say goodbye to downloading data from multiple sources and cross-referencing it manually.

Configurable dashboards that put you in control.

Watershed’s Report Builder means your organization can build and configure the dashboards and reports your reporting stakeholders need without requiring any development or installing and maintaining custom modules. You can also share and embed reports elsewhere, meaning you can consume reports whenever and wherever needed.

Segment reporting by organizational hierarchy.

With Watershed’s data and dashboard permissions, you can give line managers access to team dashboards showing reports for their people only. You can also compare different parts of your organization or drill down through your organizational hierarchy to identify parts of the organization that need extra encouragement and support to engage with their learning.

How do I convince my stakeholders?

The enhanced insights you get from connecting Watershed with Open LMS allow you to improve your learning programs and learners' experience continuously. However, we know that getting buy-in from stakeholders can be challenging. That’s why we’ve put this handy guide together to get you moving:

How does Watershed work with Open LMS?

Connecting your Open LMS data is easy thanks to our reusable connection. Watershed and Open LMS are integrated via an Open LMS plugin that sends data about learner interactions and completions to Watershed. This gives you insights into learner activity, completions, and content utilizations—all presented in clear, visual reports and dashboards.

We’ll work with the Open LMS team to handle this progress from beginning to end, so you can relax and enjoy your data.

And don't forget, you can also combine your Open LMS data with your HRIS data, data from a video platform like Kaltura, or data from any other learning platforms for even more insights covering your learners' complete learning journey—wherever it leads them.

What data is included?

The Watershed-Open LMS integration includes data about platform logins and course completions, plus granular data from several Open LMS activity modules. A full list of supported activity modules is listed below. However, please remember that if you use a module that’s not listed, it could still be possible to extend the integration to include it.

Several activities support detailed tracking of learner interactions within the activity:

  • Assignment. Records when the learner submits an assignment, when the assignment is graded, and the learner’s grade.
  • Book. Records when a learner accesses the book and individual chapters in it.
  • Face to face. Records when learners view the face-to-face activity module, when they successfully sign up for an event, when their booking is canceled, and when they attend the event.
  • Feedback. Records when learners access the feedback activity and submit responses. These question types are supported: multichoice, multichoicerated, numerical, textarea, and textfield. Other question types are not tracked.
  • Forum. Records various interactions relating to forum—including when posts are made and discussions are viewed. The data includes the new post's content.
  • Quiz. Records when quiz attempts are started, viewed, reviewed, and submitted—including success, score, time spent, and the response to each question answered. These question types are supported: essay, gapselect, match, multichoice, numerical, randomsmatch, shortanswer, and truefalse. Other question types are not tracked.
  • SCORM. Records when the learner accesses the activity and when they launch the SCO. It also records the latest status and score.

In addition, the following activities track when the learner accesses the activity:

  • Chat
  • Choice
  • Data
  • Glossary
  • IMSCP
  • Lesson
  • LTI
  • Page
  • Resource
  • Survey
  • URL
  • Wiki
  • Workshop
